Muskingum to host OAC Men's Golf Championships

Muskingum to host OAC Men's Golf Championships

Muskingum will host the 2023 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Men's Golf Championships on Friday, April 28-Sunday, April 30, at River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ohio. The event will be 72 holes, with the top-14 finishers, including ties, receiving All-OAC honors. Tee times begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday (27 holes), 9:00 a.m. on Saturday (27 holes), and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday (18 holes).

Last year, John Carroll came back from a 19-stoke deficit, defeating Otterbein and capturing the program's first OAC Tournament Championship since 1997. The Blue Streaks finished day one in second place by 19 strokes. On day two, they chipped away the deficit to nine strokes, and on the final day, they tallied a team score of 296, winning the OAC title by two strokes with a team score of 1,186. Otterbein landed as runner-up with a score of 1,188. Rounding out the top five were Ohio Northern (1,211), Capital (1,215), and Baldwin Wallace (1,234).

John Carroll will look to junior Jacob Hazen, senior Jack Wymard, and junior Grant Lumley, all finishing the OAC spring preview with a 75. Hazen tied for fourth place in last year's OAC Championship with a 295.

Otterbein is led by junior Ian Johnston, who finished as the individual runner-up at the OAC spring preview with a 71, and senior Sam Lahmon, who finished third with a 72. Last year, Lahmon placed third at the OAC Championship, finishing with a 294.

Capital will look to senior Angelo Donato, who finished first at the OAC spring preview with a 68. They will also look for strong showings in senior Colin Frimel and junior Ben Satterthwaite, who were the top two placers for Capital in the 2022 OAC Championship, with scores of 295 and 306, respectively.

Ohio Northern will look to freshman Anthony Naso and sophomore Andrew Briars, who each posted top-6 finishes to lead the Ohio Northern men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Baldwin Wallace Spring Invitational last weekend. Senior Josh Steyer also finished last year's OAC Championship with a 309.

Baldwin Wallace will look to improve upon its fifth-place finish a year ago with the help of senior Logan Bratsch, who tied for fourth place last year with a score of 295. Bratsch also tied for fourth in the spring preview with a 73, while senior Henry Neumann finished with a 76.

The host Muskies will look to use their strong spring performances to move up the leaderboard and challenge for a top spot. Muskingum has won one invitational, finished second twice, and third once in its last four events. The Muskies are led by junior Cameron Henry, who is averaging 74 and has finished first three times during the spring campaign.
