Volleyball Sweeps Baldwin Wallace in Huge OAC Contest

The Muskingum volleyball team played flawlessly on Saturday afternoon in Berea, Ohio as they swept a talented Baldwin Wallace team, who was 25-1 coming into the match, in straight sets to increase the winning streak to five in a row, 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-19).

The Basics

  • Muskingum now stands at 17-3 overall and 4-1 in the OAC. 
  • Baldwin Wallace is 25-2 overall, 3-2 OAC. BW's other loss on the season was to Mount Union last week.
  • The Muskies face Mount Union next on Tuesday, October 17 at the Anne C. Steele Center. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.

Notables

  • With the win, Muskingum is now tied for first place in the OAC with Otterbein, Mount Union, and Ohio Northern. The top four teams at the end of the regular season will host an OAC Tournament game.
  • Muskingum has now won five matches in a row.
  • The last time the Muskies defeated Baldwin Wallace was during the 2008 campaign.
  • Coming into the match, Baldwin Wallace ranked third in the NCAA Division III in hitting percentage with a .279, today Muskingum out-hit BW, .283 to .110.

  • The Muskies dominated set one (25-13), worked hard to win set two (25-21), and controlled set three (25-19).
  • Brooke Fatheree posted a game-best 19 digs, 11 kills and averaged 12.5 points-per-set.
  • Courtney Nestoff contributed 13 digs and one service ace.
  • Chloe Brandewie pounded a season-best seven total blocks and tallied eight kills.
  • Taylour Fatheree logged nine kills and finished with a game-best .529 hitting percentage.
  • Miranda Plumly tossed in eight kills and four digs.
  • Madison Sikorski chipped in nine digs.
  • Erin Dickson added eight digs and distributed 33 assists.

Inside The Sets

  • Muskingum and Baldwin Wallace tied three times early in the first set before MU took command by scoring six of the last eight points to seal set one, 25-13.
  • MU was down 11-15 in set two, then spurted nine straight points to take over the lead, 20-15. BW came right back within one, 21-20, but two errors at the end of the set by the Yellow Jackets gave the Muskies the 25-21 victory.
  • The Muskies controlled set three by only committing four errors to the Yellow Jackets eight to clinch the third set, 25-19.
