Volleyball Splits Tri-Match with Top-Ranked Wittenberg and Oberlin

The Muskingum volleyball team traveled to Springfield, Ohio for a Tri-Match against the top-ranked #1 team in NCAA DIII Wittenberg University and Oberlin College on Saturday afternoon. The Muskies are now 12-2 on the season after beating Oberlin in straight sets (3-0), while falling to a hard fought battle with Wittenberg in four sets (3-1).

The Basics

  • The Tri-Match was hosted by Wittenberg.
  • Muskingum now stands at 12-2 overall. 
  • The Muskies will host their first home contest of the season on Tuesday, September 26 against Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opponent Otterbein University at 7:00 p.m.

  • Muskingum is off to its best start since the 2008 campaign. That season the Muskies advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Wittenberg Match

Final Score: 3-1 (23-25, 19-25, 25-21, 18-25)

  • The Muskies are one of six teams that have taken the #1 ranked Tigers to four sets.
  • As a team, Muskingum recorded a season-high 83 digs versus the Tigers.
  • Muskingum had four service aces to Wittenberg's three.

  • The Muskies beat Oberlin by 13 points in set one and two (25-12, 25-12), and by six points in set three (25-19).
  • Taylour and Brooke Fatheree each recorded eight kills to lead the offense.
  • Jordan Youngs paced the defense with 16 digs, while B. Fatheree added 14.
  • Madison Sikorski produced three service aces.
  • Dana Thomas led the offense with nine kills, while Emily Kelkar led the defense with 18 digs for Oberlin.
