Volleyball looks to have continued success in 2016

The Muskingum University volleyball team is looking to replicate its success from last season in 2016. Last fall, Muskingum finished tied for third in the rugged OAC and hosted a first round OAC Tournament contest. The Muskies enter the campaign under the direction of Head Coach Hallie Donathan.

The Muskingum attack will be led by senior Katie Hunt and junior Chloe Brandewie.

Hunt was third on the team in kills with 286 and averaged 2.51 kills per set. She appeared in 114 sets and registered 83 total blocks.

Brandewie had 85 kills and 39 total blocks.

The Muskingum backcourt will be protected by junior Deidre Prince, sophomores Allison Guckes, and Jordan Youngs.

Prince had a team-high 580 digs and averaged 5.09 digs per set. Guckes competed in 21 matches with 79 digs, while Youngs saw action in 111 sets and recorded 226 digs.

Also adding depth to the squad will be the junior contingent of Mackenzie O'Shea, Laura Hill, Courtney Nestoff and Shelbie Wiseman.

O'Shea logged 21 kills and 18 digs. Hill recorded 28 kills and 125 assists. Nestoff appeared in 60 sets and tallied 177 digs, while Wiseman added 14 digs during her 16 sets.

Muskingum will also benefit from a strong recruiting class to add depth and talent to the squad.

The Muskies will open their regular season when they travel to the St. Vincent Tournament, September 2-3. The first home action will take place on Thursday, September 8 when the Muskies take on Ohio Christian at 7:00 p.m. in the Recreation Center. Select home games this year will feature FREE HD video on fightingmuskies.com.
