Muskingum University senior Academic All-American women's cross country and track and field runner Julie Fobes demonstrates excellence both in and outside the classroom.

Fobes, a nursing major, is a five-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree and a member of Lambda Sigma a national honor society for second year men and women dedicated to the purpose of fostering leadership, scholarship, fellowship, and the spirit of service among college students.

"Julie has done an incredible job of balancing her academic and athletic experience here at Muskingum. She has been committed to performing at a high level in the classroom and on the track and cross country course," said head coach Jacob Gleason. "It is extremely challenging to handle all of the nursing requirements and still train and compete at a high level."

Fobes has demonstrated what it truly means to be a student-athlete earning All-Ohio and All-Conference honors as well as serving as a vital member of the 2016 Cross Country All-Academic Team. The senior led the Muskies at the NCAA Regional meet finishing among the top 25-percent with a time of 23:10.01 and currently holds the school record in the 5k race with a time of 22:44.4.

Julie has carried the momentum over into the track season setting a new school record and earning All-Ohio honors in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:21.87, as well as holding the Muskingum school record in the one-mile.

"She has done an excellent job of staying focused to the tasks at hand and making the most out of each day here," added Gleason. "She has been a wonderful example of how someone can have a complete experience at Muskingum."

Her freshman year, Fobes earned the William F. Lange Outstanding Freshman Female Award and was presented with the Anne White Strive for Excellence Award her sophomore and junior years.

 Fobes, a captain of the Muskies, was honored as a recipient of the McCann Scholarship and has been named to the Dean's List five-times throughout her career at Muskingum.
