Women's soccer blasts Chatham

The Muskingum women's soccer team exploded for a five-goal outburst to rout Chatham on Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh, 5-0.

The Muskies struck first in the ninth minute on junior Summer Setliff's first goal of the season. The strike was setup by senior Moriah Mathies' assist.

Muskingum made it 2-0 in the 14th minute on sophomore Morgan Price's second goal of the year off a Mathies assist.

Morgan Price notched her third goal of the young season in the 44th minute off an assist from sophomore Stephanie Price.

Senior Carissa Myler tallied Muskingum's fourth goal of the outing in the 61st minute. Junior Kelsey Overley registered the assist, her second of the year.

Mathies capped off the scoring in the 88th minute off an assist from freshman Miranda Bishop.

Muskingum ended its dominating performance with 29 shots, which included 20 strikes on frame. Mathies led the team with six shots, while Setliff had five and Morgan Price had four. The Muskies also recorded eight corner kicks.

The five goals the Muskies scored are the most in a game since 2009 when Muskingum beat Trine 5-0.

Sophomore Liz Mitchell played all 90 minutes in frame and recorded three saves en route to registering her first career shutout.

Auralia Henderson led Chatham with three shots. The Cougars ended the game with eight shots.

Elizabeth Sawyer played the entire game in goal and made 15 saves and allowed five goals.

Muskingum (1-0-1) next hosts Bethany for its home opener on Wednesday, September 3 in McConagha Stadium. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
