Seniors honored

The Muskingum women's soccer team honored seniors Raven Francis, Kaitlyn Matz and Mallorie Sutter prior to its game against Capital on Wednesday night in McConagha Stadium.

A 20-second defensive lapse late in the first half proved costly for the Muskies in a 4-2 loss against Capital.

Muskingum (8-8-2, 1-7) closes out the regular season at Ohio Northern on Saturday, November 2. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.

Francis ended her home tenure with a dynamic goal in the final seconds of the game. She blasted a shot past Maggie Donnellan for her seventh goal of the season. Junior Carissa Myler was credited witht the assist. Francis now ranks sixth all-time at Muskingum with 32 career points (12 goals/8 assists).

The Muskies' opening tally came in the 28th minute off the foot of freshman Morgan Price. The 23-yard shot got past Donnellan and found the back of the net. The goal was aided by sophomore Summer Setliff's second assist of the campaign. The strike was the fourth of the year for Price.

The evenly played game appeared to be heading into the break knotted at 1-1 before the Crusaders broke through the Muskie defense with two goals in a 20-second span to stun the Muskies.

Capital (13-4-1, 6-2) scored its final tally in the 73rd minute.

Francis led the Muskies with six shots, including four on frame. Price added three shots, while freshman Samantha Harbert, junior Moriah Mathies, freshman Stephanie Price and Setliff all recorded one shot. Muskingum ended the outing with 13 shots and one corner kick.

Freshman Liz Mitchell started her second straight game in goal and made seven saves and allowed four goals.

Livvy Hein, Hilary Ells, Allison Mervau and Ashleigh Schmittle all scored for the Crusaders. Capital ended the game with 20 shots and three corner kicks.

Donnellan played all 90 minutes in frame and registered five saves and allowed two goals.
