Muskingum dominates Geneva to continue best start in program history

The Muskingum University women's soccer team dominated Geneva College on Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Saturday en route to a 3-0 shutout win. Muskingum now stands at 7-1-2 overall, which sets the record for best start in school history since the program began in 1987.

Muskingum next hosts Ohio Atheltic Conference foe Wilmington College in McConagha Stadium on Saturday, October 5. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and will feature Live Stats on the Muskie Sports Network.

Muskingum grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute when senior Raven Francis took a pass from freshman Morgan Price and beat the keeper with a shot to the lower 90.

Francis added her second goal of the day in the 41st minute after taking another pass from Morgan Price and beating the keeper with a shot to the bottom right of the goal. The two-goal effort by Francis raised her season total to five. The two assists were the first two of Morgan Price's career.

Morgan Price completed the Muskie scoring with her third goal of the season in the 86th minute. The score was set-up by senior Mallory Sutter's assist.

Muskingum ended the contest with a 28-5 advantage in shots and 3-0 edge in corner kicks. Francis and Morgan Price led the squad with seven shots each and junior Moriah Mathies added four strikes.

The Muskie stout defense which featured sophomore Hailey Dickey, freshman Samantha Harbert, senior Kaitlyn Matz, freshman Stephanie Price, junior Carissa Myler and junior keeper Melissa Emmerich helped record the Muskies' fourth shutout of the season.

Emmerich played 83 minutes in goal and recorded one save. Freshman Liz Mitchell played the final seven minutes in goal and made two saves.

Geneva was paced by Hannah Beckhusen who had three shots. Kayla Gaines played in goal and made five saves and allowed three goals.
