Muskingum sets school record with win at Chatham

The Muskingum University women's soccer team beat Chatham University on Wednesday afternoon, 2-0. Muskingum now stands at 6-1-2 overall, which sets the record for best start in school history since the program began in 1987.

Muskingum next hosts Geneva College for a Shoot for the Cure game in McConagha Stadium on Saturday, September 28. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and will feature Live Stats on the Muskie Sports Network.

Muskingum grabbed the early lead in the ninth minute when freshman Stephanie Price headed in sophomore Hailey Dickey's corner kick. The goal was the fourth of the season for Price.

The Muskies added its final tally in the 65th minute when junior Moriah Mathies scored on a rebound off the post of a Dickey shot. The tally was the sixth of the year for Mathies. Mathies now ranks 10th all-time in points for a single season with 17 (6 goals/5 assists).

The two-assist performance by Dickey raised her season total to three.

Muskingum ended the contest with a 22-11 advantage in shots and 8-5 edge in corner kicks. Freshman Samantha Harbert added four shots for the Muskies, while senior Raven Francis registered three strikes.

Junior Melissa Emmerich played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded eight saves en route to registering the shutout.

Chatham was paced by Sarah Ellis who had four shots. Liz Sawyer played in goal and made 12 saves and allowed two goals.
