Women's lacrosse honored with IWLCA Academic awards

The Muskingum women's lacrosse program, under the direction of Head Coach Lindsey Grundfast, was honored for its academic excellence in the classroom by having three players named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll and the team being recognized as an IWCLA Academic Honor Squad.

Senior Valerie Deighton, senior Sara Woods, and junior Hannah Heyboer all earned IWLCA Academic Honor Roll accolades. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.

For the first time in program history, Muskingum was named an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad. The Muskies ended the 2022-23 campaign with a 3.26 team GPA. To qualify for this prestigious honor, a team must have posted a 3.2 or higher team GPA for the academic year.

"Each year, we set a series of team goals, including a team GPA. I am super excited and proud of the team for earning IWLCA Academic Honor Squad for the first time in program history, along with three players being named to the IWLCA Honor Roll," said Grundfast. "It shows we are taking steps in the right direction not only on the field but in the classroom as well."

Muskingum concluded its 2023 campaign, posting several single-season records. As a team, Muskingum set new marks in caused turnovers (169), draw controls (209), ground balls (374), assists (54), points (207), and goals (153).
