Women’s Lacrosse defeats Anderson in Friday night showdown

The Muskingum women's lacrosse team defeated Anderson (Ind.) Friday evening 16-10 at the North Athletic Turf Field.

Notables

  • Eight different goal scorers contributed to the Muskingum victory.
  • Junior Hannah Heyboer's two assists in tonight's game set a new program for assists in a season with 12. The previous record was held by Carly Spitz during the 2019 season.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Kyleigh Dahlgren recorded 10 ground balls which is tied for all-time ground balls in a game. She's tied with Katie Shamel, who had 10 ground balls against Wilmington in 2018.
  • Muskingum has tallied 107 goals on the season.
  • As a team, the Muskies are three assists away (39) from setting the program record for assists in the season (42) set during the 2017 campaign.

How it Happened

  • Muskingum led 3-1 after the opening quarter.
  • Both squads each contributed three goals in the second quarter, but it was Muskingum who held a slim 6-4 lead heading into the break.
  • Muskingum used a 5-0 third quarter to take control of the contest.
  • Although Anderson used a 6-5 fourth quarter, it wouldn't be enough as the Muskies secured the 16-10 victory.

 Inside the Numbers 

  • Sophomore Megan Lang led the Muskingum offensive surge with a season-high six goals and two ground balls.
  • Freshman Maria Decaminada notched three goals, a team-high five ground balls, and four draw controls. The hat trick marked Decaminada's first of her collegiate career. 
  • Sophomore Riley Hudock tallied two goals and had a team-best six draw controls, and chipped in a team-best three caused turnovers.
  • Freshman Riley Zwagerman, senior Sara Woods, freshman Elizabeth Key, freshman Malysea Flood, and sophomore Haley Clifton each added a goal to the contest. Zwagerman, Clifton, and junior Hannah Heyboer dished out two assists apiece.
  • Sophomore Kennedy Norch finished with four draw controls on the night.
  • In the net, Freshman Kyleigh Dahlgren had a team-best 10 ground balls. Dahlgren played all 60:00 minutes in goal and tallied five saves on the night.
  • Riley Tull and Emma Sego led Anderson with three goals apiece.
  • Alli Rastrelli played all 60:00 minutes in goal for the Ravens and made 11 saves.
