Balanced Attack Leads Women’s Lacrosse to dominate 17-4 win over Mt. St. Joseph

A balanced attack and strong defensive effort propelled the Muskingum women's lacrosse team to a dominating 17-4 victory of Mt. St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon. The win marked the first of the season for the Muskies.

How it Happened

  • The Muskies jumped out to a fast start, netting two goals in the opening five minutes of play. The Lions scored the equalizer at the end of the opening frame to knot the score at two apiece.
  • Behind stout Muskie defense, Mt. St. Joseph was held scoreless in the second quarter, which allowed the Muskies to score four goals and stretch their lead 6-2 heading into the break.
  •  The Muskies rattled off eight straight unanswered third quarter goals before Mt. St. Joseph registered one to trim the Muskie lead. Muskingum held a 14-3 lead heading into the fourth.
  • Muskingum used a 3-1 fourth quarter to cap off the 17-4 road victory.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by sophomore Riley Hudock who tallied a game-high five goals. Hudock also registered one ground ball and grabbed three draw controls.
  • Sophomores Haley Clifton and Megan Lang both tallied three goals each. Lang snagged two ground balls as well.
  • Sophomore Riley Zwagerman netted two goals and dished out a team-high four assists, falling one assist short of tying the program record for assists in a game.
  • Freshman Maria Decaminada found the back of the net twice and forced a team-high three caused turnovers
  • Senior Raiyah Johnson and freshman Malysea Flood ended the contest with one goal apiece. Flood also grabbed two draw controls, while Johnson secured a team-high three ground balls and three draw controls.
  • Freshman Kyleigh Dahlgren tallied four saves in the net for Muskingum.
  • Mt. St. Joseph was led by Sarah Murray who tallied three goals and three ground balls.

 Up Next

Muskingum will be back in action on Saturday, March 4, when they travel to take on Franciscan. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Trinity Health System Field in Steubenville.
