Women's Basketball suffers heartbreaking loss at buzzer against John Carroll

The Muskingum women's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking loss at the buzzer against John Carroll on Saturday afternoon, 70-68.

How It Ended

  • The Muskies trailed by eight points with 4:50 left in the contest.
  • A combination of three-pointers by sophomore Courtney Hivick, and junior Caitlyn DeMassimo, along with a layup by sophomore Claudia Harrington tied the game at 62-62 with 3:21 left to go in the game. 
  • The Muskies and Blue Streaks continued to battle back and forth from that point on, seeing ties at 64, 66, and 68 points.
  • The Blue Streaks ultimately had the last possession with three seconds left on the clock. 
  • John Carroll inbounded the ball to Ava Ryncarz, who hit a step-back jump shot as time expired in the contest to lift Blue Streaks to the win.

  • Muskingum shot 27-of-53 (50.9%) from the field, 6-of-19 (31.6%) from beyond the arc, and 8-of-11 (72.7%) from the free-throw line.
  • The Muskies combined for 31 rebounds, 14 assists, six steals, and three blocks.
  • Junior Caitlyn DeMassimo led the Muskies with 23 points on 9-of-17 (52.9%) shooting from the field. C. DeMassimo also snagged 13 rebounds to earn herself a double-double in the contest. 
  • Sophomore Claudia Harrington scored 15 points while recording two rebounds and two assists. 
  • Sophomore Tori Jones scored 11 points on 4-of-9 (44.4%) shooting from the field.
  • Freshman Mckinzi Linscott scored seven points, going 3-of-3 (100%) from the field.
  • Senior Taylor DeMassimo notched five points and two rebounds.
  • Sophomore Courtney Hivick scored five points and tallied two assists. 
  • Junior Halle Morehead had two points, one assist, and one steal in the game. 
  • Sophomore Lizzy Allen dished out a team-high of six assists in the game.
  • John Carroll shot 27-of-68 (39.7%) from the field, 5-of-18 (27.8%) from behind the arc, and 11-of-13 (84.6%) from the free-throw line.
  • The Blue Streaks as a team recorded 37 rebounds, 18 assists, seven steals, one block, and eight turnovers.
  • John Carroll was led by Ava Ryncarz, who scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
