Taylor erupts for career-high 28 points vs. Mount Union

Despite Muskingum junior Mallory Taylor erupting for a career-high 28 points against Mount Union, the Purple Raiders rallied past the Muskies in the closing seconds to escape New Concord with a 64-61 win on Wednesday night.

Post Game

  • Taylor posted her career-best after hitting 9-of-13 from the field, which included making 4-of-5 from behind the arc. She also went 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Taylor also added four rebounds and two assists.
  • Senior Leigha Moran started her first game of the season and registered a career-high 10 rebounds. She also registered six points, two assists, two steals and one block.
  • Sophomore Hallie Stocker ended the game with 11 points and four rebounds.
  • Muskingum ended the contest shooting .388 (19-of-49) from the field. The Muskies were also a perfect 17-of-17 from the free throw line.
  • Annie Bova led the Purple Raiders with 20 points.
  • Katie Reed scored 16 points and grabbed seven boards.
  • Mount Union shot .338 (22-of-65) from the floor. 

Inside The Numbers

  • Mount Union charged out to a 27-13 lead after the opening period. The Purple Raiders shot .688 (11-of-16) from the field.
  • Muskingum answered the Mount Union surge by outscoring the Purple Raiders 22-5 in the second period to take a 35-32 lead into the break.
  • Taylor led the Muskies in the second frame with 12 points. 
  • The Muskie defensive pressure held the Purple Raiders to just a 1-of-16 shooting performance in the second period.
  • Mount Union outscored the Muskies 16-11 in the third period. 
  • Bova gave the Purple Raiders the lead with no time on the clock when she was fouled on a three-point heave from half court. She went on to make all three free throws to give Mount Union a 48-46 lead heading into the final frame.

  • Mount Union rallied past the Muskies with an 11-3 run to close out the game.
