Despite a fourth-period surge by the Muskingum women's basketball team, Ohio Northern escaped New Concord with a 69-60 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Basics
- Records: Muskingum (1-7 overall, 0-5 OAC), Ohio Northern (7-2 overall, 4-0 OAC)
- Location: New Concord, Ohio - Muskingum's Recreation Center
First Period
- Ohio Northern quickly took control of the game shooting .467 from the field and .600 from the three-point area.
- The Muskies made 3-of-13 from the floor.
- Ohio Northern led the period for 8:46 and the contest was tied for 1:14.
- Freshman Hallie Stocker led Muskingum with six points.
- Senior Leigha Moran and junior Mallory Taylor each had two points for the Muskies.
- ONU was led by Britt Lauck, Karissa Steffas, and Courtney Cramer with three points each.
Second Period
- Ohio Northern grabbed a 22-9 point advantage against Muskingum to increase their lead to 39-19 at the end of the half.
- ONU made 9-of-18 from the field and the Muskies were 2-of-14 on the floor.
- The trio of Stocker, sophomore Olivia Besancon, and junior Jasmine Goings each had three points for the Muskies.
- ONU was led by Brooke Espenschied with five points.
Third Period
- Both teams were even in scoring with 19 points during the period.
- At the end of the third period, ONU led Muskingum, 58-38.
- Goings led the Muskies with six points and two rebounds.
- Senior Angela Darnley and sophomore Alex Carson each added five points.
- The Polar Bears were led by Carly Thomas with four points.
Fourth Period
- Muskingum outscored Ohio Northern 22-11 in the last period.
- The Muskies made 7-of-12 shots from the floor.
- ONU was 2-of-14 from the floor.
- Taylor led the Muskies with eight points and four rebounds.
- ONU was led by Espenschied with three points.
Post Game
- The Polar Bears controlled the game shooting .424 from the field compared to the Muskies making .315 of their shots from the field.
- Muskingum grabbed a 41-34 advantage in rebounds against Ohio Northern.
- The Muskies were led by Goings with 13 points and eight rebounds.
- Taylor, Carson, and Stocker also added 10 points each.
- Ohio Northern was led by Lauck with 11 points and three rebounds.
