Women's basketball ends season at John Carroll

The Muskingum women's basketball team lost its season finale at John Carroll on Sunday afternoon, 71-56.

The game marked the final outing for seniors Taylor Maurer and Hannah Mountjoy.

Maurer ended the outing with 11 points. She connected on 76 three-point shots during the season, which was one shy of the Muskingum record of 77 set during the 1990-91 season by Michelle Snow.

Sophomore Mallory Taylor added a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Jasmine Goings had eight points and seven boards.

Junior Angela Darnley rounded out the Muskie effort with eight points and four assists.

The loss ends the Muskies' season with a 6-19 overall record and 4-14 mark in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

John Carroll was led by Katlyn Spahar who scored a game-high 24 points with 11 rebounds. Beth Switzler added 14 points and a 20-rebound performance.

The Blue Streaks (22-3, 15-3) held a 57-39 advantage in rebounds and a 46-16 edge in points in the paint.

An evenly played first half saw John Carroll take a 36-29 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Muskies rallied and tied the game at 47-47 with 10:04 to play on freshman Shelbi VanMeter's free throw.

John Carroll answered the Muskie charge by closing out the final 10 minutes of play on a 24-9 run to seal the league win.
