The Muskingum women's basketball team grabbed the momentum in the first half and kept it throughout the game en route to a solid 76-61 Shoot for the Cure win against rival Marietta in the Recreation Center on Wednesday evening.
Senior Taylor Maurer led the Muskies with 17 points and five steals. She connected on 7-of-9 from the field, which included hitting 3-of-4 from three-point land.
Sophomore Jasmine Goings add 15 points and six rebounds and junior Angela Darnley chipped in 11 points and had a game-high six assists.
Sophomore Mallory Taylor registered a game-high 10 rebounds.
Muskingum (4-14, 2-9) shot .418 (23-of-55) from the floor and used a 24-9 advantage in points off of turnovers to help secure the league win. The Muskies were also outstanding from the free-throw line hitting 23-of-26 attempts.
Marietta (7-11, 3-8) was paced by Morgan Liedtke who scored 14 points. Jessica Brogan had 13 points.
The Pioneers ended the game shooting .431 (25-of-51) from the field and were haunted by 22 turnovers.
The Muskies, who led for 34:50 of the game, took the lead for good at 10-9 on a basket by Maurer at the 12:04 mark of the first half.
Muskingum stretched its lead to 32-22 on an seven-point outburst by Maurer with 2:58 on the clock. Maurer hit two layups and one three-point shot during the run.
Muskingum led 41-29 at the break.
Muskingum next travels to Otterbein on Saturday, January 31. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
