Darnley sets school assist record vs. Denison

Muskingum junior Angela Darnley recorded 13 assists to set the Muskie single-game assist record on Sunday against Denison at the Bluffton Holiday Tournament.

Darnley's mark surpassed the previous assist record of 12 set by Tiffany Youel vs. John Carroll during the 2008-09 season and by Kate Titus vs. Heidelberg during the 1990-91 campaign. Darnley also added eight points, two rebounds and one steal in 37 minutes of action.

For the game, Denison used a late second-half run to capture a 71-63 win in the opening game of the tournament. The Muskies will play Bluffton at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29 in the consolation contest.

Sophomore Jasmine Goings led the Muskies with 17 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Mallory Taylor also added 12 points and two boards.

Muskingum (3-8) ended the game shooting .386 (22-of-57).

Denison (5-6) was paced by Mary Margaret Habel who scored 17 points and by Jordan Holmes who posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Big Red shot .458 (27-of-59) from the floor and ended the outing with a 36-24 edge in points in the paint.

Denison led 35-26 at the half.

The Muskies quickly tied the game in the early stages of the second half and the outing remained a close contest and was tied at 63-63 with 1:14 to play. However, the Big Red closed the game on an 8-0 surge to turnback the Muskie challenge.
