Trine shoots past Muskies

The Muskingum women's basketball team lost against Trine at the Franklin Tip-Off Classic on Sunday, 66-44.

Freshman Olivia Besancon led the Muskies with a career-best 12 points. She connected on 4-of-5 from the field, which included hitting 2-of-2 from behind the arc. Besancon also added six rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore Jasmine Goings had eight points and five rebounds and sophomore Mallory Taylor logged a seven-point, seven-rebound game to help lead the Muskies.

Muskingum ended the outing shooting .298 (17-of-57) from the field. The Muskies shot just .208 (5-of-24) from three-point land.

Trine's Nikky Moen led all scorers with 14 points. Kayla Dunn had nine points and seven rebounds and Whitney Shaffer had eight points.

The Thunder shot .369 (24-of-65) from the floor and used a 29-8 advantage in bench points to secure the neutral-site win.

An even first half saw Trine take a 23-21 lead into the break.

In the second half, Trine used a 15-0 surge over a six-minute span starting at the 15-minute mark to take control of the contest. The Thunder led by as many as 24.

Muskingum (0-2) hosts Bethany for its home opener on Tuesday, November 18. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. in the Recreation Center.
