Muskies Rock the Rec

The Muskingum women's basketball team had the Rec Center rocking on Wednesday night en route to a huge 62-55 win against Mount Union.

The triumph propelled the Muskies (6-15, 4-11) into a three-way tie for seventh place in the Ohio Athletic Conference with Marietta and Heidelberg. The top eight teams at the end of the regular season advance to the OAC Tournament.

Muskingum next hosts Heidelberg on Saturday, February 15 at 3:00 p.m. for Senior Day. Muskie seniors Tori Jarrett, Gabbi Davis, Alexys Settles and Meghan Billick will be recognized prior to the game.

Jarrett led the Muskies with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting, which included hitting 5-of-7 three-point shots. 

Billick added 11 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Jasmine Goings narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Freshman Mallory Taylor had eight points in her first career start and sophomore Angela Darnley notched eight points with three assists.

Muskingum ended the game shooting .462 (18-of-39) from the floor and held a 38-23 advantage in rebounds.

Mount Union (11-11, 5-10) was led by Chandler Moore who scored 16 points. Robyn Brown added 12 points and four rebounds.

The Purple Raiders shot .281 (16-of-57) from the field.

The first half was an even battle that saw Mount Union take a 32-30 lead into the break.

In the second half, the game remained a close contest and was tied for the eighth time at 51-51 with 5:19 to play.

A basket by Billick with 3:06 on the clock gave Muskingum the lead for good at 53-51.

The Muskies clinched the game by hitting 7-of-8 free throws in the final minute to preserve the home win.
