Heidelberg sinks Muskingum

The Muskingum women's basketball team fell in Ohio Athletic Conference play at Heidelberg on Saturday, 85-74.

The Muskies were led by senior Meghan Billick who logged a double-double with 15 rebounds and 12 points.

Senior Gabbi Davis scored 14 points and senior Tori Jarrett scored 13. Senior Alexys Settles rounded our the Muskie attack with 12 points.

Muskingum (4-8, 2-4) shot .415 (27-of-65) from the field.

Heidelberg (10-3, 3-3) was paced by Kathleen Phillips who scored a game-high 31 points with seven rebounds. She ended the outing shooting 9-of-14 from the field, with a 12-of-13 effort from the free throw line.

The 'Berg ended the game shooting .421 (24-of-57) from the floor.

In the first half, Heidelberg used a late run to take a 31-22 lead into the break.

In the second half, the 'Berg pushed its lead to 64-39 with 8:24 to play. 

The Muskies showed resilience and fought back with a 25-10 run over the next seven minutes to trim their gap to 74-64 with 1:17 to play.

Heidelberg withstood the Muskie challenge by hitting 11 free throws to close out the game to seal the win.

Muskingum next hosts Capital on Wednesday, January 15. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
