Softball beats Roanoke on opening day of NCAA Regional play

The Muskingum softball team scored five runs in the first inning, and senior Madelyn Thomas scattered four hits in a complete-game effort to propel the Muskies to a 6-3 win against Roanoke at the NCAA Softball Moravian Regional on Thursday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Muskingum erupted for five runs on two hits in the first inning. The Muskies took advantage of four walks and two two-run doubles by freshman Kenzie Standerfer and sophomore Eliana Shaheen to seize the early momentum.
• In the top of the fourth inning, senior Kalie Eshelman blasted a two-out home run to left field to extend the Muskies' lead to 6-1. The long ball was Eshelman's fourth of the season.
