Muskingum splits doubleheader against Heidelberg

The Muskingum Softball team traveled to Heidelberg on Saturday afternoon and split the series 1-1. Heidelberg took game one 9-3 and Muskingum would bounce back in game two, as they would win 3-2 in extra innings.

Game one

  • Freshman Bethany Rodman recorded four strikeouts from the pitching circle. When batting, Rodman went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run, and an RBI.
  • Sophomore Cara Taylor finished with two hits as she went 2-for-4.
  • Sophomore Sadie Smith contributed a run, a hit, and an RBI.
  • Senior Kalie Eshelman posted a triple and one run.
  • Freshman Elizabeth Wauford tallied a triple and an RBI.
  • Freshman Natalie Smith had a hit and was walked once.

Game Two

  • The game went into extra innings (eight innings).
  • Senior Kalie Eshelman led the Muskies as she went 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
  • Sophomore Susie Blocher aided the Muskies as she went 2-for-4 from the plate. Blocher added an RBI double.
  • Sophomore Cara Taylor contributed a hit, one run, and a stolen base. Taylor also walked once.
  • Sophomore Sadie Smith had a double with an RBI.
  • Senior Rosie Hayes added a hit and a stolen base.
  • Freshman Natalie Smith was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Smith was walked twice.
  • Senior Madelyn Thomas was in the pitching circle. Thomas notched 10 strikeouts, firing all eight innings.

The Muskies will take the field next when they host Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday, April 24. The games are scheduled for 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.; the contest is Community Day and a One Love Game.
