The Muskies start the season strong with a 7-3 record

Friday, March 8 - On Friday, the Muskies dropped two games against Johnson & Wales (8-0) and Lebanon Valley (1-0). The Muskies end The Spring Games with a record of 7-3.

Against Johnson & Wales, senior Rosie Hayes and sophomore Cara Taylor each recorded a hit. Muskingum had two players in the pitcher circle. Freshman Tareyn Born started the game and went 2.1 innings and allowed three runs on five hits.

Later that afternoon, the Muskies were defeated by Lebanon Valley 1-0. Senior Rosie Hayes, sophomore Sadie Smith, and Kenzie Standerfer each landed a hit. Senior Madelyn Thomas pitched the entire game and threw 66 pitches, 40 of which were strikes. Thomas faced 22 batters and tallied five strikeouts.

Thursday, March 7 - On Thursday morning, the Muskies went 2-0 as they advanced past Thomas (2-1) and Husson (2-0). With these wins, the Muskies move to 7-1 overall. 

Against Thomas, Muskingum had six hits and two RBIs. Freshman Bethany Rodman won her second game in the pitching circle. Rodman pitched all seven innings and notched four strikeouts and only allowed three hits. Sophomore Cara Taylor went 2-for-4, freshman Tareyn Born had an RBI on a SAC fly, sophomore Susie Blocher recorded a hit with an RBI, and freshman Taryn Mickley had one run and a hit. 

The second game of the day was against Husson, and the Muskies recorded seven hits, two runs, and two RBIs. Freshman Tareyn Born led the Muskies as she went 2-for-3, with one hit being a double. Born also scored a run. Senior Kalie Eshelman and sophomore Sadie Smith each had an RBI. Eshelman went 1-for-2 with a SAC. Senior Madelyn Thomas pitched seven innings and faced 27 batters. Thomas only allowed four hits.

Tuesday, March 5 - The Muskingum softball team faced off against Ursinus and Waynesburg. The Muskies opened Tuesday morning against Ursinus and won 6-0. The Muskies then battled into extra innings, where they fell 5-3 in the 10th inning against Waynesburg.

Against Ursinus, the Muskies dished out a shutout while scoring six runs (two runs in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th). Freshman Tareyn Born doubled to left center with two RBIs. In the third inning, senior Rosie Hayes hit a single to left field and recorded an RBI. Later in the third, sophomore Sadie Smith batted in a base runner. In the sixth inning, Born would fly out to centerfield and record an RBI. Senior Kalie Eshelman took advantage of a catcher's error and scored from third. Muskingum finished with nine hits, six runs, and three walks. Freshman Bethany Rodman fired the complete game shutout with four strikeouts to earn her first career win.

In the day's second game, the Muskies played a 10-inning thriller against Waynesburg. The Muskies struck first in the second inning when freshman Kenzie Standerfer scored a runner with a SAC bunt. Waynesburg tied the game in the sixth inning to force the extra innings. Both teams plated a run in the ninth, and Waynesburg scored three in the top of the 10th to claim the win. Freshman Tareyn Born pitched all 10 innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts. 

Monday, March 4 - The Muskingum softball team beat Marian (6-1) and New England College (7-1) on Monday at The Spring Games in Florida to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Against Marian, Muskingum scored six runs on nine hits. Senior Kalie Eshelman led the way, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, two doubles, and a triple. Sophomore Susie Blocher belted a pair of doubles and had two RBIs. Senior pitcher Madelyn Thomas fired a complete game with 11 strikeouts and one earned run to earn her second win of the season.

Against New England College, Muskingum scored seven runs on seven hits. Blocher led the way, going 1-for-1 with two RBIs and two walks. Sophomore Cara Taylor went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, one RBI, and a double. Freshman Kenzie Standerfer went 2-for-4 with a triple and run scored. Freshman Tareyn Born fired a four-hitter complete game with one earned run and five strikeouts to move to 2-0.

Sunday, March 3 - The Muskingum softball team opened its season with wins against Dominican and Westminster on Sunday afternoon. The Muskies beat Doniniacan 2-1 and capped off the day with a 13-7 win against Westminster.

Muskingum scored two runs on six hits with two errors against Dominican. Sophomore Susie Blocher delivered a pinch-hit two-run single in the fifth inning to propel the Muskies to the win. Sophomore Cara Taylor and freshman Elizabeth Wauford each added a pair of hits. Senior Madelyn Thomas fired a complete game three-hitter with one unearned run and three strikeouts to earn the win.

Against Westminster, Muskingum erupted for 13 runs on 14 hits. Sophomore Sadie Smith blasted a three-run triple and senior Kalie Eshelman went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, two RBIs and two triples. Taylor also went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, one RBI, and one double. The Muskies took control of the contest by scoring 11 runs over the game's final three innings. Freshman Tareyn Born earned the win in relief after tossing two innings and allowing two runs (one earned).
