Softball falls at Denison

 The Muskingum softball team fell in non-conference action versus Denison on Thursday night. The Muskies slipped 8-2 in game one and dropped game two 4-3.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (27-9 Overall, 13-3 OAC), Denison (18-19 Overall, 7-7 NCAC)

 How it Happened – Game One

  • The Big Red took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning.
  • Muskingum evened the score at one off a Kalie Eshelman RBI single to right field.
  • Denison answered back with three runs of their own in the fourth and added one run in the fifth taking a 5-1 advantage.
  • In the sixth, Eshelman struck again this time with an RBI double to right field.
  • Denison continued to stretch their lead scoring their final two runs of the contest in the sixth.
  • Dension secured an 8-2 game one victory.

 Inside the Numbers 

  • Muskingum scored two runs on five hits.
  • Senior Hannah Smith threw 4.0 innings of working, firing four strikeouts.
  • Sophomore Kalie Eshelman led the Muskie bats with a 2-for-2 effort at the plate, while also registering two RBIs.
  • Junior Taylor Gallentine, junior Claire Warschauer, and sophomore Madelyn Thomas each ended with one hit apiece.
  • Claire Powell led Denison with two hits and two RBIs.

 How it Happened – Game Two

  • Muskingum started the scoring off by plating two runs in the second. The inning was highlighted by an RBI single from freshman Megan Alspaugh
  • The Muskies took a 3-0 lead in the third off an Eshelman RBI single up the middle.
  • The Big Red struck the scoreboard in the fourth off a solo blast from Jaqui Abogado. Muskingum still held a 3-1 advantage.
  • A Jaqui Abogado two-run blast and Macie Harkovich RBI double saw the Big Red pull ahead and take a 4-3 lead heading into the seventh.
  • The Muskies would get the tying run on second with one out in the seventh, but back-to-back outs ended the threat.
  • Dension secured a 4-3 game two victory.

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum scored three runs on six hits.
  • Sophomore Madelyn Thomas fired 5.2 innings of work in the circle and tossed two strikeouts.
  • Freshman Megan Alspaugh and Eshelman ended with one hit and an RBI apiece.
  • Senior Katie Osburn finished 2-for-3 at the plate, and senior Haley Hawk finished with one hit.
  • Denison was led by Jacqui Abogado who had two home runs and three RBIs.
