Softball receives votes in NFCA Top 25 poll for the fifth week in a row

The Muskingum softball team received votes in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll for the fifth week in a row. The Muskies received a total of 11 points in the poll. 

The Muskies are currently 20-4 overall with a 4-0 slate in the Ohio Athletic Conference after sweeping Mount Union on Tuesday. As a team, Muskingum is batting .374 and averaging 11.1 hits, and 7.8 runs per game.

Senior Krissy Hughes is batting .553 with three home runs, three triples, 16 doubles, 19 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases. Hughes was honored for her outstanding play last week by being named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week. Hughes also set the school record for stolen bases in a season (25) and school mark for stolen bases in a career (69).

Freshman Haley Hawk is batting .500 with a team-best 28 RBIs off of 33 hits. Sophomore Jaelyn Meade is batting .408 with a team-high six home runs, 22 RBIs, three triples, and three doubles. Sophomore Karsyn Shaffer is batting .383 with 16 RBIs and 11 stolen bases, while sophomore Riley Powers is hitting .351 with six doubles and 21 RBIs.

The Muskie pitching staff sports a 3.68 ERA and is holding hitters to a .273 batting average. Freshman Hannah Smith guides the staff with an overall 8-1 record and is holding batters to a .242 batting average. Senior Rachel Eberling carries a 7-2 mark, and sophomore Hannah Duff has a 2.79 ERA with a team-best 31 strikeouts. Eberling is also batting .347 with 23 RBIs, five home runs, and nine doubles. 

The Muskies next travel to Westerville, Ohio to battle the Otterbein Cardinals on Wednesday, April 3. Game one of the doubleheader is slated for 3:00 p.m.
