Softball sweeps John Carroll on Senior Day

The Muskingum softball swept Ohio Athletic Conference foe John Carroll on Senior Day at Donna J. Newberry Field Saturday. The Muskies won the opener in five innings 10-2 and took game two, 4-1.

  • The win was Muskingum's season-high fifth straight. Muskingum is now tied for fourth with in the OAC with Heidelberg. Both teams have two OAC games left to play. The top four teams at the end of the regular season advance to the OAC Tournament, which will be held at Otterbein May 6-8.

Game 1

  • Browning scattered seven hits through five innings and allowed two runs to improve to 6-4 overall. 
  • Gawry went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and a double to pace the Muskie onslaught.
  • Bova hit a solo home run. The long ball was her second of the season.
  • Sophomore Amy Clark added an RBI.
  • The Muskies scored 10 runs on 11 hits.
  • Muskingum scored four runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
  • Alyssa Coleman led John Carroll going 1-for-2 with one RBI.
  • The Blue Streaks scored two runs on seven hits.
  • Annmarie Kirchner took the loss after going three innings and allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits. 

Game 2

  • Freshman Rachel Eberling fired six innings of one-hit ball and allowed one run to notch her seventh win of the season.
  • Gill closed out the seventh to record her first save of the year.
  • The Muskies grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first by scoring two unearned runs.
  • In the fourth inning, Melissa Maiorano belted a solo home run and junior Jessica Matthews had an RBI single.
  • Maiorano ended the game going 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
  • Freshman Krissy Hughes went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
  • Hannah Mizener logged John Carroll's lone RBI in the sixth inning.
  • Brianna Lach suffered the loss to slip to 4-6 overall after allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits.
