Dominant pitching and clutch hitting leads Muskies to sweep

Muskingum senior Sarah Browning and freshman Rachel Eberling held Mount Union to just five hits in 14 innings and junior Jessica Matthews and sophomore Mackenzie Martin each belted key two-run hits to lead the Muskies to a big Ohio Athletic Conference sweep against Mount Union on Wednesday afternoon. Muskingum won the opener 2-0 and completed the sweep with a 2-0 win in game two.

Game 1

  • Browning held Mount Union to two hits in seven strong innings of work. She recorded six strikeouts en route to notching her fifth win.
  • Matthews provided the offensive firepower with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth to score junior Haley Dotson and freshman Krissy Hughes.
  • Muskingum ended the outing with two runs on five hits.
  • Allie Scali took the loss after going six innings and allowing two runs.

Game 2

  • Eberling fired a three-hitter with three strikeouts to earn her sixth win of the season.
  • Sophomore MacKenzie Martin belted a two-run single in the second to score senior Kelly Martin and senior Fallon Gawry.
  • Muskingum scored two runs on five hits.
  • Erin Simmons was handed the loss after going six inning and allowing two runs.
