Softball trades wins at Capital

The Muskingum softball traded wins in a key Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Capital on Monday afternoon. The Crusaders used a seventh-inning rally to beat the Muskies in the opener 5-4 and the Muskies took game two in six innings, 10-1.

Game 1

  • Capital scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh to rally past the Muskies.
  • Muskingum had led in the game 2-0 and 4-3 before the late Capital surge.
  • Freshman Krissy Hughes went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
  • Senior Amber Bova had a two-run double.
  • Sophomore Melissa Maiorano went 2-for-4 with a double.
  • Freshman Rachel Eberling (5-8) went 6.2 innings and allowed five runs on eight hits.
  • Amber Martinelli (8-6) notched the win after going seven innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits.
  • Bailey Walter, Ashley Knowles, Kristen Mellott and Chianna Smitley all had an RBI for the Crusaders. 

Game 2

  • Muskingum scored two in the top of the first, added one in the second and used a five-run fifth to take control of the game. The Muskies scored five runs on four hits in the fifth frame.
  • Sophomore Amy Clark led the Muskies going 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a two-run double. She ended the outing with five RBIs.
  • Senior Fallon Gawry went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
  • Maiorano had a 4-for-4 game at the plate with one run scored and one RBI.
  • Senior Kristin Gill started the game and went three innings and allowed one run on three hits.
  • Senior Sarah Browning got the win in relief to move to 4-4 on the season. She tossed the final three innings.
  • Bree Kilgus suffered the loss after lasting 3.1 innings and allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits.
  • Brooklyn Staten went 2-for-2 with an RBI to pace the Crusaders.
