Softball sweeps on final day at Rebel Games

The Muskingum softball team ended its trip at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Florida on Saturday with back-to-back wins against Wheaton and Husson. The Muskie beat the Lyons, 4-3, and the Eagles, 8-1.

Against Wheaton, sophomore Amy Clark and senior Laina Walker led the Muskie offensive output with a solo home run each. Clark ended the game going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Walker went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored. The Muskies ended the game with a season-best 11 hits. Senior Sarah Browning earned the win in relief after going five innings and allowing one run on three hits.

Against Husson, the Muskies scored a season-high eight runs. Junior Jessica Matthews powered the attack with a two-run home run. She ended the game going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore Melissa Maiorano and sophomore Amy Clark each went 3-for-4. Freshman Rachael Eberling tossed the complete game five-hitter, with one run and five strikeouts to earn the win.

Muskingum (6-6) next plays at Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday, March 16. The doubleheader is slated to start at 3:30 p.m.

Friday, March 11 - The Muskingum softball team beat Illinois, 4-3, and lost, 5-0, against Bluffton on Friday at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Florida.

Muskingum scored two runs in the bottom seventh on a passed ball and wild pitch to rally past Illinois. The Muskies scored four runs on eight hits. Sophomore Melissa Maiorano went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI and senior Amber Bova went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Senior Sarah Browning secured the win in relief tossing four innings and allowing two hits.

Against Bluffton, the Muskies were held to four hits. Maiorano, junior Jessica Matthews, sophomore Abigail Orr and sophomore Amy Clark all had base hits. Senior Kristin Gill suffered the loss after going 4.2 innings and allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits.

Muskingum (4-6) concludes its spring trip on Saturday against Wheaton and Husson. Game times are slated for 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and will feature live audio and stats on fightingmuskies.com.

Thursday, March 10 - The Muskingum softball team beat Hiram, 1-0, and lost, 4-0, against Simpson on Thursday at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Florida.

Against Hiram, junior Dakota DeAmicis shined in the center of the diamond and at the plate to lead the Muskies. She started her first career game and recorded a four-hit shutout to improve to 2-0 on the season. DeAmicis also delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly in the third inning to score freshman Samanthan Skuce from third. Muskingum ended the game with one run on five hits.

Against Simpson, the Muskies were held to just three hits. Junior Jessica Matthews had a double and sophomores Melissa Maiorano and Abigail Orr  each had a hit. Senior Kristin Gill took the loss after going five innings and allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits.

Tuesday, March 8 - The Muskingum softball team lost against Westminster in eight innings, 4-3, and beat Bridgewater, 7-4, on Tuesday at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Florida.

Against Westminster, Muskingum scored three runs on two hits in the top of the eighth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Westminster answered the Muskie charge with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the eighth inning to stun the Muskies. Freshman Cassie Thomas led the team going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Senior Kristin Gill took the loss after going seven innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits.

Against Bridgewater, freshman Rachel Eberling notched her first career win with a complete game six-hit performance. She allowed four runs (two earned) with two strikeouts. Junior Dakota DeAmicis had two RBI and sophomore Melissa Maiorano went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Senior Amber Bova had one RBI and two runs. Muskingum ended the game with seven runs on six hits.

Monday, March 7 - The Muskingum softball team lost against Trine, 5-1, and suffered a 4-3 setback against Coe on Monday at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Florida.

Against Trine, sophomore Amy Clark provided the lone offense with a solo home run in the seventh inning. The long ball was the first of the season for Clark. The Muskies were limited to just two hits. Senior Sarah Browning was handed the loss after lasting 1.1 innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits.

Muskingum had a 2-0 lead after three innings evaporate against Coe as the Kohawks scored the final four runs of the contest. Senior Laina Walker led the Muskie charge with a solo home run and senior Amber Bova delivered a sacrifice bunt to score the Muskies' second run. Junior Dakota DeAmicis added an RBI single in the seventh.  Racehl Eberling was dealt the loss after going 5.1 innings and allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits.

Sunday, March 6 - The Muskingum softball team opened its season at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Florida, on Sunday. The Muskies lost their opener against 20th-ranked Central, 7-1, and beat Montclair State in eight innings, 6-5.

In the opener, Muskingum scored one run on three hits. Sophomore Amy Clark led the squad with an RBI single. Senior Amber Bova and sophomore Abigail Orr each added a hit. Orr's single was her first career hit. Senior Kristin Gill took the loss after going five inning and allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits.

Against Montclair State, Muskingum scored six runs on eight hits. Junior Jessica Matthews hit a three-run home run to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh and freshman Samantha Skuce delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth to lift the Muskies to the win. Junior Dakota DeAmicis earned her first career win after throwing three relief innings of two-hit ball with two unearned runs.
