Softball season ends with loss against BW

The Muskingum softball season ended on Sunday following its heartbreaking game two loss against Ohio Athletic Conference foe Baldwin Wallace, 3-2.

The Muskies entered OAC play on Sunday tied for fourth place in the league with John Carroll and Otterbein. Following its doubleheader split against Baldwin Wallace, coupled with John Carroll's sweep of Marietta, Muskingum ended the day in fifth place in the OAC. The top four teams at the end of the regular season advance to the OAC Tournament.

Muskingum won the opener 8-2 to set the stage for a must-win game two to keep its tournament hopes alive.

In the nightcap, the Muskies grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning on senior Jaclynn Hess' RBI double that scored senior Hannah Reese.

Baldwin Wallace (14-23, 5-13) took the lead in the fifth inning on Brittany Lightel's two-run home run. The Yellow Jackets added an insurance run in the sixth on Alex Miller's RBI single.

Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Muskies' comeback fell short after plating one run on three hits. Muskingum had the game-tying run on second base with two outs when the game ended with a strikeout.

Junior Kristin Gill took the loss after allowing three runs in five innings of work on eight hits.

In the opener, Muskingum's offense was powered by sophomore Alyxis Moore and junior Laina Walker. Moore ended the game with three RBIs and a two-run home run, while Walker belted a two-run home run.

Junior Amber Bova went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI.

Junior Sarah Browning grabbed the win after tossing six strong innings and allowing one run on six hits with five strikeouts. 

The contest marked the final game for Muskingum seniors Hannah Reese, Jaclynn Hess, Jessica Poff and Carissa Johnson.

The Muskies concluded their season with a record of 23-17 overall and 10-8 mark in the OAC.
