Muskingum to host Daniel Mullen Memorial Invitational

Muskingum to host Daniel Mullen Memorial Invitational

The Muskingum cross country program will host the Daniel Mullen Memorial Invitational at Moorehead Farm on Saturday, September 30.

The invitational is in honor of Daniel Mullen, who was a 2015 graduate of Muskingum, where he was a member of the cross country and track & field teams. He helped lead the men's cross country squad to a 10th-place finish at the 2012 NCAA Regional Meet, which tied for the best finish in school history. While at Muskingum, Daniel met his future wife, Jami Durkee. In 2018, Daniel married Jami, and in 2021, they welcomed their son, Aiden.

In December 2022, Daniel was diagnosed with brain cancer. After a biopsy on January 9, 2023, he was given 2-3 years to live with stage 3 glioma brain cancer. On January 24, 2023, he was rushed to the hospital after he was unable to be woken from a nap. Several tests found that Daniel had a stroke due to his cancer and was pronounced brain dead on January 26, 2023. He passed away with his family and friends around his side.

The invitational will open with the men's 8K race at 11:00 a.m., with the women's 6K race at noon. Moorehead Farm is located at 13747 Claysville Road, New Concord, Ohio 43762.
