Men's tennis battles at Beren Invitational at Marietta

The Muskingum men's tennis team battled Marietta, Waynesburg and Bethany at the Marietta Beren Invitational Friday-Saturday.

On Friday, Muskingum opened Ohio Athletic Conference play against Marietta. The Pioneers fended off the Muskies, 6-3. 

The Muskies found success on the court in singles action. Micah Keith, Levi Hall and Markus Hofstetter all notched wins.

Keith beat Will Watson at fourth singles 6-4, 6-2, while Hall aced Brandon DeCicco at fifth singles 6-0, 6-1. Hofstetter won a three-set thriller at sixth singles against Michael Doran 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3).

In doubles play, Hall and Hofstetter dropped a hard-fought 8-6 bout against DeCicco and Alex Hogan.

On Saturday, Muskingum lost 6-3 against Waynesburg and 6-3 against Bethany.

Against Waynesburg, the third doubles tandem of Keith and Caleb Patten won 8-0 against Paul Zalakar and James Zeremenko. Keith also won 6-0, 6-2 at fourth singles against Tanner McKnight. Yozabro Igari rounded out the Muskie effort with a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) win at fifth singles against Paul Zalakar.

Against Bethany, Hall and Hofstetter won at third doubles, while Keith won on fifth singles and Patten won at sixth singles.

Muskingum next hosts Otterbein on Wednesday, March 29. Match time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
