Men's Soccer falls to Carnegie Mellon in season opener

Muskingum Men's Soccer opened the season with a 9-2 setback against Carnegie Mellon Thursday evening at the CMU Soccer Field.

The Basics

How It Happened

  • Muskingum junior Zach Schmauch led the Muskie attack with a goal and an assist. Schmauch connected on a throw in with junior Trent Newby in the 81st minute to claim the Muskies first goal of the contest.
  • Schmauch would score minutes later as he fired a ball from 25-yards out off an assist from senior Kyle Baker.
  • Newby took three shots in the contest, all of which were on frame.
  • Junior Josh Routte recorded a game-high eight saves.
  • Carnegie Mellon used a six-goal outburst in the second half to seal the victory.
  • Zack Masciopinto led the Tartans with five shots and one goal.

Between the Pipes

  • Routte started and played all 90 minutes in frame. 
  • Alec Lam started in goal logging 75 minutes of action. Andrew Ferber played the final 15 minutes and made one save.
