Muskies fall in OAC opener

The Muskingum men's soccer team lost its Ohio Athletic Conference opener against Baldwin Wallace on a cold Saturday afternoon in McConagha Stadium, 4-1.

Baldwin Wallace (5-7, 1-0) took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute on a goal by David Elsen to grab the early momentum.

The Yellow Jackets added their second tally in the 23rd minute on a strike by Zach Smith.

Muskingum (4-7, 0-1) trimmed its deficit to 2-1 with a penalty kick in the 40th minute by sophomore Quenan Martin.

BW padded its lead with a goal by Cody Smith just 12 seconds into the second half. 

Zach Smith completed the scoring with his second tally in the 66th minute.

The Yellow Jackets ended the outing with a 24-6 advantage in shots and 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Freshman Trent Newby led the Muskies with three shots.

Cody Smith and Michael Brennan led the Yellow Jackets with five shots each.

Senior Eric Riley started between the pipes and made eight saves and allowed four goals.

Ryan Asbury played all 90 minutes in frame for BW and made one save and allowed on goal.

Muskingum next travels to Capital on Wednesday, October 8. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
