Men's soccer stumbles vs. W&J

The Muskingum men's soccer team lost its final non-conference game of the year against Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday night in McConagha Stadium, 4-1.

The Presidents (4-5) grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute on Brian Hanna's goal that was assisted by Dylan Small.

Washington & Jefferson maintained the lead throughout the half and the lead into intermission.

The Muskies, whom were playing a man down following a red card in the 51st minute, tied the contest in the 52nd minute on senior Austin Mills' 55-yard free kick that caught the keeper off his line. The goal was the second of the year for Mills.

Washington & Jefferson regained the lead in the 54th minute on a goal by Justin Carter off an assist from Jason Menni.

Brian Hanna then scored his second goal in the 74th minute and Connor McKenzie completed the scoring in the 80th minute.

For the game, Washington & Jefferson held a 24-17 edge in shots and Muskingum had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Freshman Trent Newby led the Muskies with six shots, including five on frame. Junior Tyler Craft had four shots and sophomore Antonio Meehan registered two.

Senior Eric Riley played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves and allowed four goals.

Jon Best started the game between the pipes for W&J and made seven saves and allowed one goal.

Brian Hanna led the Presidents with six shots and Menni added four.

Muskingum (4-6) next hosts Baldwin Wallace to open Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday, October 4. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Muskie Field.
