Men's soccer stung by Yellow Jackets

The Muskingum men's soccer team was stung by Defiance on Sunday afternoon, 2-1.

The Muskies (4-5) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on senior Austin Mills first goal of the season.

The Yellow Jackets (2-8-1) tied the contest in the 54th minute on Nick Kleptz's goal off a double assist from Jayson Long and Ian Fasnacht. Defiance then took the lead on a Kleptz penalty kick in the 55th minute.

Following a Defiance red card in the 78th minute, the Muskies played the final 12 minutes of the outing with a man advantage. However, Muskingum was not able to tally the equalizer.

Defiance ended the game with a 10-4 advantage in shots and 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Freshman Trent Newby led the Muskies with two shots, while Kleptz had five strikes for Defiance.

Senior Eric Riley played all 90 minutes in frame and made two saves and allowed two goals.

Damian Koester started between the pipes for the Yellow Jackets and allowed one goal and made one save.

Muskingum next hosts Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday, September 30. The game is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start in McConagha Stadium.
