Muskies overcome adversity to take down Scots

The Muskingum men's soccer team, playing a man down, beat North Coast Athletic Conference rival Wooster on Saturday night, 2-1.

Muskingum, which was forced to play a man down after a red card in the 48th minute, tallied the game-winning strike in the 84th minute when junior Logan Lazar scored his first career goal on a ball misplayed by the keeper.

Freshman Trent Newby opened the scoring in the 16th minute off a double assist from junior Brett Hanna and freshman Michael Koelbl. The score was Newby's third of the season.

Wooster tied the game in the 23rd minute on Matt Parmelee's finish off of Mouhamet Ndiaye's cross.

Muskingum ended the game with nine shots. Koelbl led the team with three strikes and Newby added a pair.

Senior Eric Riley played all 90 minutes in frame and allowed one goal and made two saves.

Wooster (3-2-1) ended the outing with 13 shots and was paced by Parmelee and Matt Ehrenburg who each tallied four shots.

Alex Molinari played the entire game in frame and allowed two goals and made one save.

With the win, Muskingum improves to 3-1 overall and extends its winning streak to three. The Muskies next travel to second-ranked Kenyon on Wednesday, September 17. Game time is slated for 4:45 p.m.
