Men's soccer handles Thiel

The Muskingum men's soccer team beat Thiel on Saturday afternoon in McConagha Stadium, 4-2.

The win moves Muskingum to 2-1 overall. The victory gave Muskie Head Coach Chris Limle a triumph against his former team he coached last season. The Muskies next travel to Wooster on Saturday, September 13. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.

Muskingum grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute on junior Brett Hanna's breakaway shot from 10-yards out. The tally was setup by sophomore Nick Koch.

Thiel tied the game early in the 47th minute on Jordan Lilley's strike.

However, the Muskies responded with a three-goal surge over the next 19 minutes to take control of the outing.

Freshman Trent Newby scored on a breakaway from a Koch pass to give the Muskies a 2-1 lead in the 48th minute.

Newby added his second goal in the 65th minute after finishing a Hanna cross in the box.

Hanna completed the Muskie scoring with a header off of a Newby cross in the 67th minute.

Muskingum ended the contest with an 18-12 advantage in shots and 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Newby led the squad with five shots, while Hanna added four and freshman Michael Koelbl had three.

Freshman Fabien Defer made his first career start in goal and registered three saves and allowed two goals in 90 minutes of work.

Troy Elsea capped of the Tomcat scoring with a goal in the 80th minute. Lilley led the team with seven shots.

Dalton Young played the entire game in frame and allowed four goals and made six saves.
