Muskingum drops tight contest

The Muskingum men's soccer team lost a tight game on a cold and damp day at Mount Union on Wednesday afternoon, 3-2.

The Muskies now stand at 5-10-1 overall and 0-5-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Muskingum next plays at Heidelberg on Saturday, October 26. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.

Mount Union (9-7, 4-2) took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute on a goal by Zach Tanzillo.

The Muskies quickly answered with a goal in the 13th minute by junior John Barr off an assist from freshman Christopher Heine. The goal was the second of the season for Barr and the assist was the second of the year for Heine.

The Purple Raiders added two goals in the 36th and 41st minute to take a 3-1 lead into the break.

Junior Austin Mills scored the Muskies' final strike in the 54th minute. The goal was the first of the season for Mills.

Mount Union ended the game with a slight 13-11 edge in shots and 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. Barr led the Muskies with three shots, while freshman Andreas Pfefferkorn added two shots.

Senior Will Hess played all 90 minutes in frame for Muskingum and recorded two saves and allowed three goals.

Dylan Lias started in frame for Mount Union and made two saves and allowed two goals.
