Muskies lose spirited contest

The Muskingum men's soccer team lost a spirited contest against John Carroll on Saturday evening, 2-0.

Muskingum now stands at 5-9-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Muskies next travel to Mount Union on Wednesday, October 23. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

John Carroll (12-2, 5-0) took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute on a goal by Mariusz Trzeciak off a double assist from Nathan Sharbaugh and Brian Potocnik.

The Muskies had several solid chances to tie the contest over the next 30 minutes, but had two shots sail wide of the goal and were denied another time by John Carroll's Chris Garbinsky.

The Blue Streaks added their final tally in the 70th minute on Jimmy Mattina's header off of Boban Cancar's long direct kick.

Freshman Cody Sprague led the Muskies with five shots, while junior John Barr added three strikes. Sophomore Brett Hanna rounded out the Muskie attack with two shots.

Senior Will Hess played all 90 minutes in frame for the Muskies and recorded eight saves and allowed two goals.

Garbinsky registered three saves in goal for John Carroll. Trzeciak led a trio of Blue Streaks with five shots.
