Pfefferkorn records natural hat trick to lead men's soccer past Ohio Valley

Muskingum freshman Andreas Pfefferkorn registered a natural hat trick in the first half en route to leading the men's soccer team to a 4-1 win against NCAA Division II Ohio Valley University on Saturday night in McConagha Stadium.

With the win, Muskingum moves to 4-4 overall. The Muskies next travel to Bethany College on Tuesday, September 24. Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m.

Pfefferkorn opened the scoring in the third minute on a shot to the upper 90 off an assist from freshman Raul Alcala.

Pfefferkorn extended the Muskie lead to 2-0 when he chipped the keeper in the 17th minute.

Pfefferkorn completed the natural hat trick in the 25th minute when he scored off an assist from freshman Cody Sprague. It marked the first hat trick for a Muskie player since Daniel Meehan recorded one in 2010. Pfefferkorn's three-goal performance lifts his season total to 12 goals.

Muskingum added its final tally in the closing seconds of the game when junior defender Luke Carmichael scored on a direct kick from 38 yards out that deflected off a defender and into the goal.

The Muskies ended the outing with a 16-10 advantage in shots and 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Freshman Mathias Buchner played the opening 45 minutes between the pipes and senior Will Hess played the final 45 and made one save and allowed one goal

D'Arcy Turner started the game in goal for Ohio Valley and allowed three goals and made two saves.
