Pferfferkorn scores two goals to lead Muskingum past Wooster

Muskingum University freshman Andreas Pfefferkorn scored two first half goals to lead the men's soccer team past the College of Wooster on Wednesday night in McConagha Stadium, 2-1.

With the win, Muskingum moves to 1-1 overall. The Muskies next travel to Manhattanville College on Friday, September 6. Game time is slated for 7:45 p.m.

The energized Muskie squad gave the Black & Magenta fans that packed the stadium plenty to cheer about. Pfefferkorn gave the Muskies a 1-0 cushion with his first goal in the the ninth minute off a pass from junior John Barr. The strike was from outside the box into an open net after the Wooster keeper misplayed the ball.

Pfefferkorn netted his second goal in the 37th minute on a ball played over the top by freshman Liam Roche. Pfefferkorn then chipped the keeper to give Muskingum a 2-0 advantage.

Wooster's lone tally came in the 58th minute when Aleksi Pelkonen found the back of the net off a loose ball in front of the goal.

Muskingum ended the outing with a 21-17 edge in shots and 4-2 nod in corner kicks. Barr led the Muskies with nine shots, while Pfefferkorn logged five.

Senior Will Hess played all 90 minutes between the pipes for Muskingum and recorded two saves.

Matthew Canter took the loss for Wooster after allowing two goals and making six saves.
