Men's lacrosse suffers first home loss

The Muskingum men's lacrosse team suffered its first home loss in the friendly confines of McConagha Stadium on Saturday against Thiel, 15-4.

A quad of Muskies paced the offensive attack. Sophomore Andrew Buchbinder, freshman Tucker Haas, junior Jason Hammond and senior Joey Alford all scored. Buchbinder also logged an assist.

Muskingum recorded 28 shots and claimed 40 ground balls. Buchbinder led the squad with six ground balls, while Alford, Haas and freshman Luke Rust all had five.

Sophomore keeper Taylor Masterson played the opening 30 minutes and allowed seven goals and made five saves. Freshan Phillip Dappen played the final 30 minutes and allowed eight goals and made five saves.

Thiel (5-2) was led by Timothy O'Shea who scored six goals and registered one assist. Kyle Reib added a hat trick. The Tomcats ended the contest with 39 shots and 37 ground balls.

Ryan Weldon started in frame and allowed two goals and made four saves in 34 minutes of action.

After a close first period, Thiel used a 5-0 burst in the second period to take a 7-1 lead into intermission.

Muskingum opened the third period with a goal by Hammond, but the Tomcats responded with three straight strikes to take a 10-2 lead into the final frame.

Muskingum (3-4) next plays at Transylvania on Saturday, April 4. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
