Men's lacrosse stays hot and unbeaten at home

The Muskingum men's lacrosse team stayed hot and unbeaten at home following a dominating 13-3 win against Defiance on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, Muskingum moved to 3-1 on the season and a perfect 3-0 at home. The Muskies next play at Trine on Saturday, March 21. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

The Muskies took control of the contest in the first period. Muskingum used an 18-5 shot advantage to build a 5-1 lead. Muskingum led 8-1 at the intermission.

Muskingum began the third period with a man advantage and quickly scored three goals to take a commanding 11-1 lead.

Freshman Zach Kern led the team with a career-best four goal performance with two assists.

Sophomore Kyle Baker scored a career-high three goals. Senior Joey Alford added two tallies and one assist.

Rounding out the strong Muskie attack was sophomore Andrew Buchbinder, junior David DeGood, junior Jason Hammond and freshman Tucker Haas who all scored one goal. Buchbinder and DeGood also registered two assists each.

Muskingum ended the game with a 43-33 edge in shots and won 14-of-19 faceoffs. The Muskies also were 16-of-19 in clear attempts and were 7-of-9 in man-up advantages.

Sophomore Taylor Masterson played the opening 30 minutes in goal and made six saves and allowed one goal. Freshman Phillip Dappen played the final 30 minutes in frame and allowed two goals and made five saves.

Defiance (0-5) was led by Eddie Minear, Evan Henry-Singleton and Matthew McGervey who all scored one goal.

Ricky Potts played all 60 minutes in goal and allowed 13 goals and made 15 saves.
