Men's lacrosse earns first-ever win

The Muskingum men's lacrosse team battled through winter storm Thor on Wednesday night to earn its first-ever win in its inaugural season against Franciscan in McConagha Stadium, 4-3.

The triumph also marked the first of Head Coach Nick Gallagher's career.

The Muskies were led by sophomore Andrew Buchbinder who scored a game-high three goals to record a hat trick. He scored two in the opening period and added his final tally in the third frame. Buchbinder ended the game with 13 shots.

Freshman Zach Kern added one goal and one assist on six shots to help pace the Muskie attack which peppered the Franciscan goal with a season-high 39 shots.

Sophomore Taylor Masterson played outstanding in goal making 13 saves, including one in the final seconds from point-blank range to preserve the Muskie victory.

Franciscan (0-4) was paced by Mark Hanlon who had two goals on seven shots. Mike Rossachi added one tally on four shots. The Barons recorded 25 shots.

Jonah Soucey made 17 saves in goal and allowed four goals.

Muskingum (1-1) returns to the stadium against Calvin on Saturday, March 7. Game time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
