History made! Men's Lacrosse plays inaugural game

The Muskingum men's lacrosse team, under the guidance of Head Coach Nick Gallagher, played its inaugural game at Bethany on Wednesday afternoon. After a strong opening half by the Muskies, the Bison used a second-half surge en route to a 15-5 win.

Senior Joey Alford etched his name in the Muskie record book by scoring the first goal in Muskingum history. The strike came at the 8:13 mark of the first period and tied the game at 1-1. The tally was assisted by sophomore Andrew Buchbinder, who registered Muskingum's first-ever assist.

Alford added his second goal at the end of the first period to trim the Muskie deficit to 4-2. 

The Muskies used a second-period thrust to outscore the Bison 3-1 to send the game into intermission tied at 5-5. 

Buchbinder scored his first career goal with 12:04 on the clock. The goal was setup by freshman Zach Kern. Kern then added the final two strikes of the frame. He scored at the 9:37 point and the 3:17 plateau off Buchbinder's second assist.

The second half was controlled by Bethany. The Bison (2-0) scored six goals in the third period and four in the fourth period to secure the win.

Jake Holland led the Bison with five goals and three assists, while Brendan Wessells notched four goals and four assists.

Taylor Masterson played all 60 minutes in goal and made eight saves and allowed 15 goals. Jacob Holibaugh played the entire game in frame for Bethany and recorded nine saves and allowed five goals.

Muskingum ended with 25 shots, which included 14 on frame. Bethany had 46 shots, with 26 on goal.

Muskingum next hosts Franciscan on Wednesday, March 4. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in McConagha Stadium and will mark Muskingum's first home game.
