Men's Basketball delivers high-octane performance against Marietta

The Muskingum men's basketball team delivered an energetic performance in front of a capacity crowd on Wednesday night in a raucous Steele Center against Marietta. However, the Pioneers escaped New Concord with a 69-65 Ohio Athletic Conference win.

  • Muskingum surged behind the energy of the Muskie fans and raced out to a 15-0 lead through the opening seven minutes of play.
  • Marietta chipped away at the Muskie lead and took a 24-21 advantage with 4:32 left in the half.
  • Muskingum closed the half on a 10-5 spurt to take a 31-29 lead into the break.
  • In the second half, Muskingum continued to feed off the spirit in the Steele Center and built a 58-49 lead with 7:56 to play.
  • The Pioneers battled back and answered the Muskie vigor with a 20-7 run over the final seven minutes to survive the Muskie effort.

  • The Muskies shot 28-of-63 (44.4%) from the field, 6-of-23 (26.1%) from the three-point range and 3-of-7 (42.9%) from the free throw line.
  • The Muskies recorded 39 rebounds, 11 assists, 14 points off turnovers, 40 points in the paint, and the bench scored 21 points.
  • Sophomore Duane Davis led the Muskies with a double-double, with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Davis also recorded four assists and a blocked shot.
  • Freshman Owen Emig sparked the offense with 17 points going 4-of-10 (40%) beyond the arc. Emig also had three assists, two steals, and a block.
  • Freshman Nathan Walker shot 4-of-9 (44.4%) from the field totaling 10 points. Walker also posted five rebounds, one assist, and one block.
  • Senior Luken Hill went 4-of-7 (57.1%) from the field scoring nine points, while having five rebounds.
  • Sophomore Logan Stotzer helped pace the offense with eight points on 4-of-6 (66.6%) from the field. Stotzer also grabbed two rebounds.
  • Junior Ethan Taylor had three points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
  • Freshman Reed Coconis finished with five rebounds, two points, one assist, and a steal.
  • The Pioneers shot 24-of-63 (38.1%) from the field, 5-of-25 (20.0%) from three-point range, and 16-of-25 (64.0%) from the free throw line.
  • Sahmi Willoughby posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Wiloughby went 4-of-6 (66.6%) from the field and 3-of-4 (74%) from the free throw line, while having three blocks.
  • Jac Alexander scored 16 points on 5-of-11 (45.4%) from the field, while having two rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
