Men's basketball gives tenacious effort against No. 1 John Carroll

Muskingum battled top-ranked John Carroll in an intense, spirited contest on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Streaks narrowly escaped New Concord with an 87-84 win. 

Notables

  • Sophomore Duane Davis had a career-high 21 points, shooting 8-of-14 (57.1%) from the field and 5-of-6 (83.3%) from the free throw line. Davis also added five assists and grabbed four rebounds.
  • Freshman Owen Emig scored a career-high 18 points. Emig shot a blazing 7-of-9 (77.7%) from the field and 4-of-5 (80%) beyond the arc.
  • Muskingum recorded a season-best 18 assists and made a season-high 11 three-point shots.
  • Muskingum's 84 points tied its season-high for points scored.
  • Muskingum's bench outscored the Blue Streaks 48-22.

  • The Muskies battled the Blue Streaks in a tough, gritty, spirited contest for 40 minutes. 
  • The game featured five lead changes and five ties.
  • Muskingum closed the game with a 14-0 surge to pull within one possession in the waning seconds. The run was highlighted by five points from Davis, three-point shots from junior Ethan Taylor and freshman Tanner Holbert, and a three-point play from sophomore Shane Knepp

  • The Muskies shot 32-of-70 (45.7%) from the field, 11-of-25 (44.0%) from the three-point range and 9-of-12 (75.0%) from the free throw line.
  • Sophomore Duane Davis set his career high while leading the Muskies with 21 points, shooting 8-of-14 (57.1%) from the field and 5-of-6 (83.3%) from the free throw line. 
  • Freshman Owen Emig set his career high with 18 points. 
  • Senior Luken Hill and freshman Nathan Walker aided Muskingum's offense with seven points each. Hill solidified the Muskie defense with four blocks.
  • Taylor and sophomore Alex Coffey each scored six points. Taylor also added four assists and three rebounds.
  • Muskingum freshman Reed Coconis added five points and three assists.
  • John Carroll ended the outing shooting .436 (34-of-78) from the field and 4-of-17 (.235) from three-point range. The Blue Streaks also made 15-of-25 from the free throw line.
  • John Carroll was led by Henry Raynor and Luke Chicone, who both recorded double-doubles. Raynor had 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Chicone had 19 points and 10 rebounds.
