The Muskingum men's basketball team defeated Waynesburg in dominating fashion on Wednesday night, 95-48.

Notables

  • The Muskies' 47-point win was the largest margin of victory since 1999-00 when they defeated Hunter College by 50 points (98-48).
  • Junior Marcus Dempsey scored a game-high 27 points to move his career total to 1,588 points and currently ranks fourth all-time in Muskingum scoring history. He is one point away from Rick Brown (1986-90), who scored 1,589 points.
  • The win marked the third straight victory for the Muskies. 

Inside The Numbers

  • Dempsey scored the first 14 points of the game en route to a game-high 27 points. He hit 10-of-14 from the floor and 3-of-3 from behind the arc, while dishing out a team-high seven assists. 
  • Sophomore Trey Singleton and junior Alex Masinelli each scored 11 points for the Muskies. Masinelli also added a team-best five boards, while Singleton grabbed four.
  • Freshman Luis Suarez chipped in 10 points off the bench, going 4-of-5 from the field.
  • The freshmen duo of Tanner Gensler and Brandon Zuchowski each registered four rebounds. 
  • Isaiah Alonzo led the Yellow Jackets with 16 points shooting 4-of-10 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.
  • The Muskies ended the night shooting 34-of-62 (.548) from the field and 16-of-28 (.571) from the three-point line.
  • Waynesburg finished the game going 16-of-47 (.340) from the floor and 4-of-19 (.211) from downtown.
  • Muskingum out-rebounded the Yellow Jackets, 41-22.

Game Highlights

Dempsey opened the contest scoring 14 straight points to give the Muskies an early 14-7 edge. Muskingum used a 17-0 run midway through the frame to extend its margin to 37-20. The Muskies continued to dominate play over the final seven minutes of the half by outscoring the Yellow Jackets 19-4 to enter the break with a commanding 55-24 lead. The Muskies shot a blazing 69% (20-of-29) from the floor in the first half, which included hitting 10-of-14 three-point shots. 

In the second half, Muskingum continued its reign of dominance and led by as many as 51 (94-43) in the late stages of the contest.

  • The Muskies next travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, for the D3Hoops.com Classic and take on Ramapo in their first game on Saturday, December 28. The game time is set for 9:00 p.m.
